Richard D James aka Aphex Twin has shared a new NFT artwork, created by anonymous digital artist and longtime visual collaborator Weirdcore. The artwork is titled /afx\/weirdcore\<blockscanner> and comprises sound by the musician and a glitchy animation of his face, which is something we see a lot of throughout Aphex Twin’s career.
The British musician announced that the artwork was going up for auction on Foundation, a platform that also hosts NFTs from Pussy Riot and a Nyan Cat GIF that famously sold for more than $500,000 last month. He also plans to spend the money from the sale on planting trees. The reason for that is James’ major concern about the massive carbon footprint of crypto-art. “We will spend a portion of the money on planting trees,” he writes, “and either donating to permaculture projects or setting them up ourselves, depending on how much we get.”
The one-day auction of /afx\/weirdcore\<blockscanner> by Aphex Twin and Weirdcore is set to end on March 15.
